Cancel Event

Operations Unit Chargeable Unit Events Chargeable Unit Events view Actions Cancel Event

To cancel the events listed in the Chargeable Unit Events view, use the Cancel Event option. (Note, you cannot cancel a STORAGE, LINE_STORAGE, or REEFER event.)

When N4 extracts the billable events for a unit, it adds the records to the Chargeable Unit Events view (on page 1) and assigns a batch number to the extracted events. This ensures that N4 does not extract these events the next time you select the same unit.

However, sometimes you may need to update various attributes of a unit that affect billing, such as the commodity code or the ISO code, after you have extracted some events for the unit. N4 does not automatically replicate these updates to the events that it extracted previously. If the extracted events are still in the QUEUED status, you can cancel these extracted events and re-extract the events with the updated attributes. This ensures that the updates are reflected in the extracted events and you do not have to make the updates in two places.

In another scenario, you may have billable events that were recorded erroneously. For example, you may have the same event recorded twice for a unit, but you want to bill the customer only once. In this case, if you cancel one of the events in the Chargeable Unit Events view, N4 will re-extract the event in the next extraction cycle.

To resolve the above problem, do not use the Cancel Event option. Instead, use the Correct Unit Attributes form (on page 1) and change the status of the extracted event that you do not want to bill to something other than QUEUED, PARTIAL, or GUARANTEED. For example, you can change the status of the extracted events as DO NOT BILL. This ensures that N4 does not re-extract the event and also ensures that the event is not selected when you generate an invoice for the customer because when generating an invoice N4 selects only the records that have the status QUEUED, PARTIAL, or GUARANTEED.

To cancel selected event(s):

  1. In the list view, select the event(s) that you want to cancel.  You can cancel an event only if the event status is QUEUED.

  1. Select the Actions Cancel Event option.

N4 prompts you for confirmation.

  1. If you click Yes, N4 sets the status of the selected events as CANCELLED.

You cannot cancel a STORAGE, LINE_STORAGE, or REEFER event.
